Schools out for Summer!

The kids had their last day of school last Friday. They went for only a half of a day and now it's on to Summer Vacation! Their first week was spent at Nana's relaxing and playing games on their laptops. Today both kids had a doctor's appointment for their annual physicals. Jessica had to get two shots for entry into 7th grade but Alyssa got off with not having to get any shots which made her extremely happy. Camp forms are signed so they are ready for their horse riding camp during the week of June 15th. Jessica also has dance camp starting on July 6th and then we will be going on vacation to Galveston during the week of July 20th. That pretty much sums up our 2009 summer. The kids will start school again on August 13th and I'm not sure why they are starting that early. I thought we were supposed to be following the directives of HISD but HISD doesn't start until August 24th, so who knows what's going on. Anyway, we'll have a fun-filled summer unti...

Big Winners

Image
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Glenn worked all day Saturday as Manager On Duty. I used my time wisely and made sure that the house got cleaned. Jessica studied for her finals that will be coming up this next week. On Sunday, we went to the Sam Houston Racetrack. Granny Laine let the girls pick the horses that they thought would win and she placed bets for them. Jessica ended up winning over $40 and Alyssa ended up winning over $20. Glenn was the big winner of the night and he won over $300.00......I was the big loser and won NOTHING. But that didn't dampen my spirit.............I still had a great time. Friday night was Brianna Kibler's and Cailin Kavanagh's 8th grade graduation from St. Ambrose Catholic School. I am sure that they are really glad that they will no longer be at St. Ambrose, but we will really miss them. Jessica still has two years left at SAS and Alyssa has 5 years left at SAS. Today, we went to Nana's to visit with Nana, Papa, Donna, Bri and the boys. T...

Pep Rally

Image
Kendel, Ashley & Jess Yesterday was St. Ambrose's End of School Pep Rally. Jessica got to perform with the JV cheer squad for the last time. There will be no JV cheer squad next year. Instead, they will have a Varsity Cheer squad and a Dance Team. Jessica got to perform a dance routine with the new dance squad, too. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a video together to post on the blog so that everyone can see her routines. Jessica and Chelsey The Cousins Yesterday was also Alyssa's birthday. She got all sorts of neat things for her birthday. She got a new Fusion scooter and an ipod just to name a few. Her palete expander fell out of her mouth on Thursday and so we had to go to the orthodontist and have it put back in yesterday. Alyssa's ipod!

Weekend Stuff and Wax Museum

Image
Check out my baby! Here is Alyssa - aka Margaret Lea Houston at the St. Ambrose School 2009 annual Wax Museum. There were all sorts of Texas History figures represented this year. Can you guess who any of these are? Well, I couldn't either! Abigail in the Wax Museum Kathryn in the Wax Museum This past weekend, was another busy one. We celebrated Guy's 50th birthday out at Little House on Saturday. We took the football and baseball equipment as well as kites for the kids to play with. We forgot (or ran out of time, rather) to bring the carrots and apples for the horses. Poor Penny is ready to have her baby any day now......we're just waiting for the call so we can go out there when she has it. Jessica preparing her kite for flight! Alyssa playing tug-o-war Flying Kites! On Sunday, Mom, Donna and myself, as well as the kids, went to Galveston to pick out a beach house for rental this summer. We picked out a nice one for a week during the middle of the July. We have asked Laur...

It's Over!

Image
Well, Sunday is almost finished, done, over. The combo-birthday party for Jess and Alyssa turned out really nice and I hope everyone had a great time because I know that all of us did. The only souls brave enough to get into the pool were the kids, which was fine with me. It left the adults time to get to visit without hearing, "MOM" yelled every 5 minutes. :) Lauren stayed and spent the night with the girls. I'm not sure how late they stayed up but I was in bed by midnight - back up at 8:30 and the girls were still asleep, sprawled all over the living room floor so there is really no telling when they went to bed. Alyssa worked on her back-drop for the wax museum. Her back-drop is a drawing of the Steamboat House. She is portraying a woman from around 1840. Can you guess who she is? .....probably not from just that, but she will have clues about her life posted next to the back-drop and she will be dressed as her "person". All of the other students will have t...

Getting ready for Parties.......

Today was the girls Field Day at school. They had all sorts of relays and races and other activities that they participated in. I took off at 1:00 pm and picked them up from school. Of course, I forgot my camera at home so I have NO PICTURES to post. :( We have been working the better part of the afternoon and evening getting ready for the girlies combination birthday party. I have baked a cake & brownies and I'm well on my way to being ready. Now, tomorrow will probably be a different story. I am scheduled to get up early and get Sadie to the Vet by 8:30 in the morning. That's gonna throw me off BIG TIME! I'll post tomorrow with pictures from the party.
We have been really busy getting ready for Alyssa's Wax Museum that the 3rd grade will be performing in. We have the dress, gloves and the hat that I made from a picture I found on e-bay. She is going to Margaret Lea Houston, wife of Sam Houston. I'll post pictures when the time comes. Tomorrow is Glenn and my 23rd Wedding Anniversary. Not sure what we're going to do yet, but whatever it is, I'm sure it will be with the kids since we don't have a sitter lined up. No gifts this year, though, since I got my big gift last year.....my BEAUTIFUL anniversary ring! We'll probably get Glenn a new band, though, to replace his original band that was damaged a few years ago. I took my ring to Jared's today to have it cleaned and while I was there I checked out the men's rings. Very nice! I LOVE Jared's!!!! Next weekend we're having a combined birthday party for Jess and Posey. If all goes well, it will be a swimming party but I have a feeling th...
