Still Waiting.............

Image
It's a little after 7:00 pm and the wind has started to pick up, but no rain yet. The idiot teenagers from across the street are outside playing football and listening to their loud music.........I really really wish they would find someplace else to go. The power has already gone off and on several times in the past hour so it probably won't be much longer before it's out for good. I don't have much ice so I don't know what we're going to do with the stuff in the fridge. I started freezing water in tupperware containers but they're still not completely frozen. Ike's landfall is scheduled for tonight but the outer rain bands have already started coming up on land, which should be reaching us soon. We're planning on sleeping downstairs tonight in the living room. The kids are really excited about that. They want the power to go out so that they can light the candles, but I don't think they really understand that if the power goes out that it will

Yikes! It's Still Ike!

We're getting ready for Hurricane Ike to make a visit to the Milner house. Glenn has boarded up the downstairs (East) windows at the back of the house. We both worked all evening to move chairs, tables and all kinds of other things from the backyard and into the garage. So far, it doesn't look like it's going to be that bad of a storm, but everyone is still panicking. I stopped to get gas this morning and the lines were so long at the gas stations that it reminded me of the 70's when we had gas rationing! I just kept on driving until I found a station that wasn't too very bad. I ended up getting gas and then during my lunch hour I went back out to stop by the grocery store and noticed that the gas station I had stopped by that morning was completely out of gas. I also noticed the same thing about many other gas stations. When I made it to Krogers, they were out of almost EVERYTHING! I couldn't believe it. I bought a few things that I needed and then got out of t

Yikes! It's Ike!

It's Wednesday evening, and once again it's been a busy one. Jessica cheered at the JV football game this afternoon. We lost this one, but I'm sure we'll win the next! :o) Jessica did great with her cheers and was able to get her poms back, although several other girls didn't have any, so I don't know what happened to theirs. You can bet that I'll make sure and label them properly this time. Alyssa was a little bummed because she didn't get a "spirit" stick this time. I tried to yell for one but she said I was embarrassing her. :( ............I guess I should have seen that one coming! Tomorrow is crazy hair and face day at St. Ambrose so we'll need to get up a little earlier to make sure everything is ready on time. Jess will be performing at the Pep Rally on Friday and that will end "Spirit Week" at St. Ambrose. It looks like Hurricane "Ike" might be coming more towards us than we originally thought. I guess we'll

Very busy evening............

It seems like this evening would never end, but it is finally over and I can finally rest! I picked the kids up from school, went home, started dinner (a yummy beef stir-fry!) and then helped with homework and studying......AGAIN! It seems like my evenings are always the same. Nothing exciting, just studying..............3rd grade and 6th grade studying, at that! Jess had cheer practice this afternoon and Ms. Thompson never even asked the girls to check their pom poms to see who got Jessica's and the other 2 girls poms. We did finally figure out that the funky set she ended up with belonged to another girl who came and told us that she had picked up someone else's by mistake. So I guess she'll get a different pair tomorrow but we still don't know if it's hers. Jess cheers at the JV football game tomorrow afternoon and so we'll stay to see her cheer before going home for the evening. I think Alyssa still has another test to study for, too, so we'll have to ge
